About

Rowena Surguy Womack was born during the Great Depression with tuberculosis and re-contracted the disease at the age of twelve. She spent three years in isolation at the Irene Byron sanatorium in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, one of the youngest patients ever treated for pulmonary tuberculosis with pneumathorax treatment.

Despite these early health setbacks, Rowena maintained a thankful spirit and determination to succeed, graduating in the top ten per cent of her high school class, excelling in speech, debate, writing, music and mathematics. For fourteen years she was a single mother working two jobs with five sons and a daughter.

Today she counts many grandchildren and great grandchildren in the family fold. A cancer survivor, she remains the thankful spirit, guided by her Christian faith. She finds joy in the smallest details of life. Rowena is the author of the children's books Popcorn, Yellowstone Moose, Goofuses Etc. and Tommy Two Shoes.

My Pre-schoolers loved this Moose!

"Yellowstone Moose is a delightful story about a moose living in Yellowstone National Park and being disturbed by humans. My preschool class not only enjoyed the story about this moose, but empathized his situation. We discussed preserving wildlife habitats and the importance of respecting others' living space. They were delighted by the illustrations and easy to read story. Great story, great message, great pictures!" - Rebecca, Teacher

Love this book.

"Very nice book. The graphics are wonderful". - A. Moe, Amazon Review

Lovely book!

I really enjoyed this book mainly because my daughter could read it all on her own and she loved it. it is great to see kids loving a book like this. I think she is now going to be a reader for life, highly recommend it and the authors' other book, Goofuses etc. - Susan Broadby, Author

Adorable pictures and great message!

The illustrations of this children's book caught my eye, but the message in the story made me buy it for my preschool class. Rowena Womack does a delightful job showing how humans can disrupt nature and have an adverse effect on wild animals. We discussed pollution and its effect on the environment and wildlife with my 4 year old class. The kids loved the pictures of the moose and understood the true meaning of the story. Thank you for writing a story that helps our young children comprehend the importance of keeping our world a beautiful place for all.  - Rebecca, Pre-school Teacher
